Parents and Teachers Working Together
We meet every Thursday morning at the school to plan fundraising activities, fun events for the kids and more
There are innumerable benefits associated with the PTA in the RBK, ICSE schools in Mira Road and around. One of the greatest benefits associated is that it helps teachers to understand students from the parent’s perspective and vice versa. It helps parents to know all about the functioning of the school, problems and so on. It works towards making the school better and the best place to get a quality education. In this, it is the teachers and the parents that sit together and discuss various issues regarding school and even a particular student. The overall aim of the PTA meeting is to ensure the school offers the best learning experience for the students keeping in mind their needs.
Some parents of students with special needs are resentful of their local PTAs because they feel that their children are excluded from school activities. Some special education classes don’t visit the library or the book fair at all. The school carnival may be too noisy and chaotic for certain students. Special education teachers may feel discouraged from applying for a PTA classroom mini-grant, because it will only benefit a few students. Some PTA meetings may seem to be controlled by a small clique that wants nothing to do with special education students.
Teachers who have been around a while will be more than willing to share some memorable stories about strange parents and even stranger conversations with those parents. Nevertheless, parent-teacher conferences are a wonderful opportunity to extend lines of communication between home and school, keep parents informed about their children's progress—both academic and social—and for developing cooperative strategies that can ultimately benefit every student.
